Mashed is the only way to go. Leaves a little bit of texture in the results.
This is why they are called Mashed Potatoes and not Whipped Potatoes.
If you want good whipped potatoes go for the Ore-Ida brand of instant potatoes. Tastes like the real thing, believe it or not!

I mash half of them and whip the other half. My eldest son likes em mashed, and my youngest son likes em whipped. I try to make everyone happy. :P

I usually prefer fried potatoes or french fries. I like to mash them and add my secret ingredients whenever I make them for my husband.
