Did you recently install some program?
I assume you can open and close the drive tray?
Restart, press Del or F2 or F10 key (depends on your system, watch the screen) on start up to go to the Bios setup. Confirm that your cd writer is detected.
If not, what I would do is to open up the panel (turn off your pc, of course) and doublecheck to make sure the cable to the drive has not come loose on both ends.
If this checked okay, you can try rolling your system back to an earlier date using XP System Restore and see if it helps.
Otherwise, you likely need a new drive.

if u know to open your pc swithch off all comp switch open it you can see ur cd rw is connected one power and ide cable change your power cable and ide cable and start ur pc if u dont want to take risk just hire a comp engg who ca do this and you have to pay mimimum rs:200-400 to the person to solve it or if ur cd rw have some harware problem you have to repair it or buy a new one

look through your driver setup to see if the burner is not there, if not, reformat with boot disk or download the drive of your burner, hope this helps

Hi. It may have failed. But go through what answer 1 suggested before replacing it. Not expensive and easy to do.

i would not sugust checking for this with out proper tools like an anti static mat and anti static wrist strap but its probley loose cables or dust if you know what your doing check for it if now call a tech.
