Screen Resolution stuck too high for monitor, doesn't display desktop. HELP!?

I have broken my CRT and my resolution is stuck at 1600x1200, I need to use my TV then to get onto my computer and the TV only supports 1024*768 or less so I am stuck only being able to see the boot-up screens and then it goes off into never ever land and I can't see the screen at all.
