The people who end up bitter and unhappy did not marry the right person or maybe it was the right person and they just don't know how to treat each other.
Change- never try to change someone else, only yourself
Respect- never put the other down
Compromise- if it means more to the other than let them have their way
Protect- always watch out for the other
Love- love is not just a feeling, it is a choice.
Never say or feel- "Whatever", that is the beginning of the end
Always remember that it is only 50/50 in bed, every other moment of the day the work is split by need and necessity.
My marriage is great, we treat each others feelings and bodies the way we want to be treated.

If you have to contend with a "fatalistic" attitude like you display, for SURE you're going to have problems. But there are many couples who do not view life, love, and marriage that way.
Once, in an Ann Landers column, there was a very GOOD point made as to WHY people SHOULD be married, even in these days of single-parenthood.... and that is for simple purpose of "Legal Medical Standing." Even today, in most states, if a couple is not LEGALLY married, and one of the partners experiences some medical condition which leaves that person incapable of making decisions for themselves.... NO amount of time living together (with the exception of the FEW states which recognize "Common-Law" marriage) will give the "surviving" partner the LEGAL RIGHT to make MEDICAL DECISIONS for the patient. Even if there's signed legal documents, the FAMILY of the patient can legally dispute it. What's the consequence? A torn-apart family, and the patient caught in the middle of life and death with NO one to legally speak for him/her.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

People don't think about the growing statistics when they are in love.
They always say to themselves "That won't happen to us..." and it almost always does.
I think it's really pathetic that so many young people get married so young and divorced all before they can even drink. It's so sad to me that they often ruin their lives with this by getting stuck with kids that only have a 19 year difference than them.
Just the other week my Grandmother was talking to me about this, about how she wished that I wouldn't do what my bother did, having kids so young and them running off. She was crying and everything, it was very touching.
And yes, I am bitter about marriage, maybe it's because my parents never did get married and I never have met my real father. Or maybe it's because I'm gay and can't get in on those statics tics. Maybe I'm just jealous?

Well considering marriage isn't a big deal now days because people has turned dating into pretty much married but you can still go out and do things with other people then marriage doesn't have a point. But if you are one of those clean, nice, have morals people that believe in saving theirselfs for marriage and once you say "i do" your making a commitment then marriage has a big point to it.
