Political Parties have (or at least are supposed to have) a guiding philosophy.

I believe that it is fair to judge the Democrats on the basis of what their leaders in Congress are proposing. Since the Republicans have sufficient votes in the Senate and the House to block legislation (as it takes 60 votes in the Senate to bring a measure to a vote and 2/3 in both to overcome a veto), its not 100% fair to judge the Democratic Party based on the refusal of Republicans in Congress to go along.

Likewise, I believe that Republicans have to expect to be judged by George Bush since he is the leader of the Republican Party.

Once the two parties have Presidential Nominees, of course, both will get an opportunity to explain how the party under their leadership will differ from what the party has been doing.

While most people choose to ignore the fact, American Politics (just like every other major democracy) are organized based on political parties. Voting based on the "person" is a recipe for an unaccountable government since every candidate can claim the good things that their party does while disclaiming the bad things.

I have been accused of judging the Democratic part by the actions of a few... However, it's not the few that stands out as corrupt, it's the few that aren't corrupt. Until I actually meet an uncorrupted Demo, then I will continue to prejudge them as idiots.
