Do you think children should be spanked?

I wanted to know what people thought about it because they are trying to pass a bill through which makes spanking illegal in Massachusetts

Definitely. There needs to be consequence for negative behavior. However, nothing but a hand should be used!

I think there are times that children need to be spanked. I also believe that many of the problems with children these days are because of the lack of a good spanking! Time out only works so far, a spanking one time will stick in child's head for a while. No it does not damage their psyche. I was spanked as were my brothers and every time it was because we deserved it, we are all successful adults now.

I think children should be spanked if there is nothing else you can do. If they will not listen to you or try to run all over you then you should use your hand on their bottoms. To me...I think making spanking illegal is just downright stupid...cause if you don't discipline your children they will run all over you and then end up never listening to anyone.

I don't see anything wrong with spanking. My kids are 21 and 24 and they were spanked when it was warranted. They're both well adjusted, responsible and hard working. The older one (son) is a very talented artist, who also works full time as a manager at an electronics company...the younger (daughter) is in college studying to be a pharmacist with a 3.6 GPA.

I have a very close relationship with both of them.

From everything that I have been learning in child development and early childhood classes, it is very disrespectful and ineffective to spank a child. When a child misbehaves, the best thing to do is to talk to them about it, not hit them because of it. All the child learns from the spanking is that when their mommy or daddy is mad at them they get hit. They don't actually learn anything valuable for their future.

i think if any school system and there are quite a few that believe corporal punishment is the way to go..can spank a kid i believe the parent that birthed that kid should have that right..not beat but spank or punish...what is wrong with the kids of today is someone forgot what punishment and want are..not abuse..but when you constantly hand things to people and they never have to work for anything its all a given...you get the thugs and brats that we know today

i think children should be spanked as long as theres limits like you can only hit ur kid on the but or hand or something, but hitting ur child in the face or with a fist really is unaceptable, but i do belive they should be spanked, i was and everyone i know was, and we turned out great. its not child abuse and it tells the kid when he's behaving badly and that he should stop and not do that again, having ur child scream and throw a fit in public shows really bad parenting skills to me

Yes, when necessary. Spanking should never be used as a method to relieve frustration. I just don't understand why people are trying to make it hard for parents to raise their children.

Yes i think they should be spanked if they are doing something wrong... What else are you supposed to do to disicpline them?? I mean come one.... As long as you aren't spanking them for no reason and just to abuse them... When you spank them you don't need to do it your hardest just spank them enought to let them know that it is wrong so they don't do it again...

As long as it is not over done. I was spanked when I was young and I turned out just fine

Yes, for small children, and within reason. Should only be spanked on their rear end, and shouldn't be too hard.
