Huckabee has reached 17% in the national polls, 2nd place overall, and is now winning Iowa. He is no longer the unknown candidate, he will soon face serious scrutiny, and will need to be strong to carry his (potential) win in Iowa further, due to the lack of organization.
My question is, what problems does he face as a candidate for the nomination?
I feel that the most defining challenge will be whether or not his evangelical followers will be a base to grow from, or a ceiling. Will he be able to format his strong values to appeal to more diverse people?
This is intended for serious debate among Huck supporters or intelligent contributors.

He's been clear in debates to say that God was involved in creation, but does not specify the interpretation of "6000" years.
Perhaps some serious political opinions?

I think his problems with the conservative base will be a) very weak stance on illegal immigration. He needs to come up with some ideas of controlling the borders that do NOT include any form of amnesty. b) Taxes. From what I understand he's got a problem with a history of raising taxes in his home state.
I really hope he addresses these issues. I want someone I can get excited about supporting!

Huckabee will have to defend his record in Arkansas as governor- which is not too sterling.
1. He was investigated more than once for ethics violations as they related to campaign contribution and gifts in office.
2. He had a contentious relationship with the press
3. He raised the taxes in Arkansas several times to support government programs especially AR Kids First, which he was very proud of.
4. He is weak on immigration
5. He governed as a moderate to liberal but not as a conservative

shall we examine the full substitute. "you recognize, Michael, between the flaws it extremely is troubling is that folk see a Natalie Portman or another Hollywood starlet who boasts of, 'hey look, you recognize, we are having infants, we are no longer married, yet we are having those infants, and that they are doing only high-quality,'" Huckabee stated. "yet there are not particularly distinctive single mothers available who're making hundreds of thousands of greenbacks each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days for being in a action picture." maximum single mothers are very undesirable, uneducated, won't be able to get a role, and if it weren't for government suggestions, their young ones could be starving to loss of life and in no way have well-being care. and that's the tale that we are no longer seeing, and it is unlucky that we glorify and glamorize the assumption of out-of-infants wedlock," Is what he stated so undesirable. as nicely he's a preacher, of course he will denounce it. Atleast he's not turn floping on it. he's on an excellent stance.

You are asking for trouble if you vote for Huckabee. He is a walking contradiction. If the US were a secular country i think he would work, but seeing as we are a world power and the decisions that we make affect so many other countries, because of his religious beliefs, i seriously doubt he could make objective and correct choices within his policies. He comes up well short of being the complete Presidential package.

There are very few intelligent contributors who still believe the world is seven thousand years old and flat. The rest of us are too busy laughing to get involved.

Please let us know of these "Polls" that he is in 2nd place overall, and is now winning Iowa.
I have only seen that he is winning in three of the six polls in Iowa and there all in the statistical margin so technical he is tied with Mitt Romney in Iowa.
National polls: I have only seen one poll that shows him in first place. He is in fifth overall. Please give us a link to back your claims. (Like mine below)

He already has quite a bit of support outside the evangelical base (he only has 48% of them currently supporting him). A lot of Independents, such as myself, rally behind him because of his support of FairTax.

His belief in bible inerrancy. To reject modern science on the basis of 2000 year old superstition will not sit with most American voters.
Oh - and if the only guy you can find to endorse your candidature is Chuck Norris - that is a liability too.
