I have a rice cooker which I had to partially take apart so I could clean it and allow it to dry out after putting a cup of water into it (it wasn't on when I did this) . I accidentally unplugged 2 wires (one black and one white) when I was taking it apart. I have identified where they need to go, but I am not sure which order to plug them in. One of the connectors has an L symbol next to the connector and the other has a N symbol. I think I need to plug the white cable into the N, and the black cable into the L. I am a little uncertain if I have them plugged in, so I haven't tried the rice cooker yet.

Does your rice cooker have a " Polarized Plug "........that is ,
one prong is wider than the other . The wide prong is for your
" Neutral " or ( - ) negative connection which will go into the
wide slot in your receptacle , assuming your receptacle is
" Polarized " and wired correctly . To test , place 1 wire from
a test lamp on the screw of the recepacle cover and the other wire in the narrow slot of the receptacle and it should light up,
indicating correct polarity.
So basicly white is neutral ( - ) , black is hot ( + ) and never the twain shall meet .
Personally . I don't think it makes any diferrence how you connect it........ it's only a rice cooker. Polarization is usually
required for only high-end electronic equipment.
Go ahead , plug it in !!!!!!!!! If there's a problem the breaker will trip , that's all.

Black is the hot wire and white is the neutral so I could agree with the N but what does L stand for? Live? There are testers so that you can get the right side of the wire in the right way and don't reverse polarity.

Black = L = Line
White = N = Neutral

Both of those wires are live for the untrained.
