I usually only use clorox in my dish water if I want them to soak for a week and the water not get slimy but if your dishes are stained, poor on straight clorox, then add water to cover for a week or what ever til you need them and then rinse well with water, then take some shampoo and use it as dishsoap, and rinse well after so you don't spit bubbles......Hand soap will clean, but won't give you suds which we aree used to whhen wshing dishes, If you have a dog with you just let them lik the dishes then put in clorox water , keep some handy for soaking and then you can just pull out what you need and rinse well with water before you use, no soap or shampoo is really nescessary especially if your going to cook in the dish, the heat will sterilize.......
Cats are good dish washer also if you have a cat not a dog....

Clorox will sanitize your dishes when rinsed in clorox and water. Lemon juice is also a great cleaner for eating food off your plates and dishes. so would orange peels. You may want to add some aspirin to your 72 hr. kit. Could help with the headache you may get the next day after drinking gin. Also you can actually save tap water in an empty clorox bottle before rinsing it out just add water to it, and there will be enough residue of clorox to keep your water safe to drink. Great for storing water.

I would use the hand soap and then rinse with diluted bleach. I mean just a tablespoon per gallon of water. The dishes will be clean but you may just have to deal with the stain. Some materials like melamine are prone to staining.
Personally I am proud of all the things you have available in the storm.
Peace,
Pam

You shouldn't put lighter fluid on dishes. ( you don't say what kind they are..) if they're like Corning wear, use some Bon Ami or Comet, make sure they are RINSED real well. ( not in the dishwasher...always by hand) for the dishwasher use some powdered TANG (yes the stuff you drink...) it will clean your dishes (citric acid) and make your dishwasher clean and it's safe to use on dishes..
Never use things on dishes or cookware that can't be eaten...if it happens to stick or bleed into the dishes you'll make yourself sick or worse..
Never put bleach on dishes or in your dishwasher (it eats the finish off of everything and will pit metal...)
and no drinking bleach will NOT hurt you. (my brother drank a glass full once, the Dr said no problem and there wasn't...)

Clorox or the hand soap will clean your dishes, but I would be careful about using either one in your dishwasher. I would suggest hand washing.
Stock up on dish soap, paper plates and plastic utensils for the next snow in

Believe it or not I knew some people who lived on a farm and they used soap that they disolved with water in a pan on the stove. Your great, great, grandmother probably used the same soap for dishes and clothes and bathing ofcourse it was a different formulation but?

You can wash your dishes using one cap full of bleach, in hot water, and your dishes will be sanitized.
Many restaurants use bleach for sanitizing their dishes and food prep areas. It is a common practice and approved by health departments.

It sounds funny, but the shampoo is a detergent!
I see you have hand soap...but is there any that is NON deoderant? The perfume leaves a taste.
Use a few DROPS of bleach in the rinse water to kill any germs!
Lighter fluid could kill you!
Stay warm!
