Well, it depends on what your standards are. If you are freaked out by lots of minorities and poor people, and the occasional dingy freak, then the bus is not for you. And for the longer rides, you do have to be patient and able to divert yourself by reading, watching the scenery, or listening to music, or you will go nuts. For example from Chicago to New York might take 25-30 hours, and that's a LONG time, and its not super easy to sleep well in a bus seat.

Bus trips vary, if all goes right its mainly just kind of long. Sometimes you can get stuck with a highly obese, sick, unbathed, or over-conversational seatmate, and that can be a drag. Also sometimes Greyhound does stupid stuff, like overbooking and making the extra passengers wait for the next bus. Or the bus breaks down.

Greyhound seems to be getting its act together lately although it still has a ways to go. For example the depots seem significantly nicer than they used to be.

It can be kind of fun, seeing new scenery out the huge windows, reading a good book with the soft purr of the bus motor in the background.

Yeah, its not for everyone, especially on the longer trips. You kind of have to have the right attitude.

I took the bus a couple of times. Once it was only 4 hours, that was ok. But when I was on a different time for 14 hours, that was pretty bad. Mostly because of the smell emanating from the bathroom a couple of rows behind me. I've seen commercials for Greyhound, and it looks like they are updating all their buses. so maybe its not so bad now.

It really depends on the bus, and the driver you have. Most of them are great, but once in a while you'll find a cranky one. . .lol

Seriously though, the shorter the trip, the better the experience. Travelling on a bus for extended periods of time leads to sleepy bums. Personally, I prefer the bus for shorter trips, and flying for longer trips. Depending on where you're going, sometimes the flying is actually cheaper.

its not bad, just take a flask and stay drunk the whole time. it will also help you sleep. the only problem with greyhound is having to make alot of stops, however, this usually only delays you a short amount, especally considering you are not having to drive.

Who do you think will be taking the bus? The lower fringe of society.
