find a common denominator for your problem

x/6+x/8=1
24 is your lcd

4x-3x=24
x=24

x/6 - x/8 = 1
48 (x/6 - x/8) = 48
8x - 6x = 48
2x = 48
x=24

24/6 - 24/8 = 1
4 - 3 = 1

I don't know of any value of x that needs to be excluded. Usually you need to exclude a value of x if a certain value of x makes the denominator = to zero. That's not the case with your problem.
