Microsoft couldn't "control" Apple if it wanted to - They can't innovate, heck they have a hard enough time copying Apple properly as it is.

Microsoft sold their investment in Apple in 2001 for a very good return.

Although Microsoft has absolutley NO influence over ANYTHING Apple does - Apple innovates and Microsoft trys desparately to copy them 2 years later - Microsoft does have a Mac Business unit that develops numerous software products for Apple and has been doing this since 1987 - namely Microsoft Office for Mac and for a while they had IE for Mac.

Apple's market value currently stands at $154 Billion with 7% of the computing martket share and 70% of the portable music player market share

Microsoft's market values currently stands at $314 billion dollars with 90% of the computing market share and about 2% of the portable music player market share (well behind Apple)
