What if someone saw our government as "messed up" and decided hey lets reform it we can become stronger and change it!
What we are doing for Iraq is grateful and all but in my opinion we need to start putting it in their hands rather than trying to control EVERYTHING like we are.

lol some of you are taking things the wrong way getting really defensive i think its sad that you are I think American soilders barging into family homes at night trying to maintain control is wrong I feel like the presence is wrong if they dont want us there we should go. Wouldnt you want it that way if some foreign power decided to change things. Iraq as a whole didnt attack America. Who would believe that? It was a group of people not a country! I believe "someone" has a hidden agenda. Someone could have overthrown him a long time ago if you ask me.

I dont watch the news they are all lies and the troops dont know what they are fighting for. I would like for one troop to truly tell me what the TRUE purpose is for us being in there. So a government can be free? Then why did it take OUR government 231 years to reform it? Why do we all of a sudden care? What about all the other countries? Are we going after Korea next and then Japan are we going to do this forever and make the whole world a democracy?

it is CONTROL when a women feels she cant leave her home because she fears American troops. When we control who enters and exits the country. Bush said we are looking for weapons of mass destruction someone should point america out on the map and let him decide if he should destroy us or not! Wait he already has.

Wow...you are really trying to start something with the Bush supporters. lol
Life would be miserable if that happened to the U.S. Of course it wouldn't since we are labeled the world police. But there is alot of logic to your question. And basically I don't understand why the soldiers are still in Iraq. Those people do not want us there!! I guess when more than 50% of our soldiers are dead...Bush will be happy. Yeah I said it. And I feel like if the Iraqi people don't want to take control of their own country and end the chaos then the hell with them...Im going home.
lilmissshame...I am really feeling you on this!!

This is a very complicated issue. What I can't understand is why Saddam didn't allow the inspectors in to ascertain there were no weapons stored there. It was his shear stubbornness that got us involved. Up to the point of the invasion, the UN was involved and there were clear lines which we couldn't cross and the same for Iraqi aircraft. If Saddam didn't have anything to hide, why did he not let in the inspectors? What other agenda would there be? Does any country want to destroy a country and kill thousands of innocent people for no reason? Don't forget that Saddam had already invaded Kuwait and was pushed back. If the US was really territorial, wouldn't we just have gone all the way to Baghdad then? Vietnam was a total and useless conflict and look at how many other countries were sucked into that ordeal. But today we are friends and prosperity has returned. The Middle East is quite another story. There are so many religious factions and ideologies that peace in that region will probably never be achieved totally. That is a very good question.

A direct answer: if we were in the same situation... I would be very grateful and fully support them.
Elaboration: all governments, like all countries and all people have both good and bad, evil and beauty. It is a matter of perspective, along with personal beliefs and agendas what is "messed up" and what is worth killing people over. Evil exists, and so sometimes war is necessary, but make no mistake, there are no winners in war. The Iraqi people are human and have children they love just as I love my son. Would I want a war in my country with my son here? No. But sometimes the horrors of war are outweighted by the horrors of not wagging it. Our government (the US) does have evils, just as all governements do, but will my son have a good chance at a good life? yes, he does. Would an Iraqi child have the same life? depends on who you listen to, but I've been there, and would say it is much less likely.
The second part of your question states "we need to put it in thier hands?", but what if our governement, right now, marched into your (or my) home and killed a member of our family. Could we put up a realistic fight? or would we want help. The Iraqi people deserve the same chances we have, while I don't support every aspect of our current war, I do say we give the Iraqi people every chance we can.
It isn't an easy answer, and anyone who says they have the perfectanswer or that staying or leaving is the perfect solution doesn't understand all the aspect to it. Stay or leave, they are both going to have dire consicuscencs, it is a matter of which will, overall, hopefully bring some peace to some people.

We are trying to make Iraq safe for themselves and the world. If we ran around blowing countries up for no reason than I would expect to be taken over.
Iraq can not control its own destiny. We attacked Germany and Japan in world war 2 . We stayed in those countries until the citizens could control their destiny and they didn't do so bad.
The Islamic world has some factions that want democracy dead. Most people in Iraq want that also but these factions will not allow it.

I would defend my country to my death. Better dead that subjugated my an invader.
I support our troops. They are doing what they are told. There are some very disturbed people in Iraq and if we are helping the government over there deal with them then that's great, however that government can't agree on anything so all were doing is killing their enemies for them.
Know that I support and troops, period. I do not support our President.

A war of any kind would be absolutely horrifying...however, if you were at war, wouldn't it be nice if a country that bombs you, then rebuilds you? Is there any other country in the world that has done this? Not that I would want someone to dictate to us on how to govern our country...as we seem to be doing to them. Bottom line is...who are we to get into their business of governing their country, and if they want us out, then we should get out. In the meantime we keep printing money to spend rebuilding their country, and the value of our dollar keeps going down, and our people are spending more to eat and live. I really don't know how I would feel and hope that we never have to find out.

People have to be in the Iraqi's shoes to understand how it feels when someone invades their homes.
I came from a country that the US shouldn't be there in the first place. The result was 3 million people died for nothing. Thank God that we're able to rebuild our country without the help of the US- slowly but surely.

Every human being has a right to freedom and should be able to choose who governs them. And I think it's better that we control it for a while so that the people of Iraq can all control it in the future, not just a dictator. Also I think it's too complicated for an American to say whether civilians in Iraq don't want help, we can't rely on the media to tell us they hate us or love us for it.

I know what you mean, and they wonder why so many bombings of American troops, and attacks on them also by Iraqi militants.
Americans, embarrassingly enough, are quite arrogant and have a lot of evil nerve. It's truly embarrassing to admit being an American at times.
Armageddon will be a wonderful day. No more of mankind's wars or even any rumors of wars. All of mankind's governments will be destroyed permanently. That'll be huge!
