What band do people expect you to like, but you don't?

What band do people expect you to like because most people who listen to the same type of music as you listen to those bands?

Nobody has ever passed an opinion on my taste in music :(

But I think if I said Classic Rock, a lot of people would think that I'd like :~

1) 1980's hair metal bands {I'm not a fan}
2) AC/DC {definately not a fan}
3) Several modern 'Rock' bands I *know* I don't like!


On the reverse, a lot of people are suprised to find that this Rock Gypsy likes Type O Negative!

Well the imbeciles at my school think I listen to Slipknot/Slipnot [sp?] - because i listen to Rock.

There's a girl in my school that started speaking to me for the first time a week or so ago - she said she liked Guns N' Roses and my heart skipped a beat lol.
Then she started listing all these bands that I'd 'probably like'. Madina Lake... Fall Out Boy... I sat there in sheer amazement.

I imagine some would assume that I like Hair Metal, because GN'R are often lumped in with those bands [which i strongly disagree with, but hmm..]. I recently noticed that GNR is the only band of it's kind that i actually /really/ like.. which is strange.

This is rambley...bleh.

Along with dozens of these retro-progressive rock bands that really bore the heck out of me. A few of my 20-30 something year old friends seem to have made it their duty of keeping me informed on what they term interesting and unique.
To me it's nothing new, been there...done that!

People expect me to like Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Good Charlotte, 50c, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake...but I honestly couldn't care less about them and I especially hate listening to Fall out boy and chemical romance.

Phish. I've seen them live many times during the peak period as well as having heard just about all of their albums due to having an ex who was a big fan but I've never been able to get into them.

AC/DC and Guns N' Roses. Axl's voice makes me want to take a cheese grater to my ears, and that weird back up singer for AC/DC freaks me out just a bit. You know, the one that sounds like a toad with laryngitis? Not to mention, their music, both of them, is too aggressive for me.

Another typical scene at school:


"You like rock! All right! Don't you think that *blah blah blah* is soooo cute?"
"Um, who's that?"
"The lead singer of this awesome band! Everyone who likes rock likes them!"
And this is about the point that I pull my Mick picture out on them :D

AFI, the Misfits and Metallica... I think they see me and go "hey she's a weird-o, she MUST loooove (insert one of the listed bands)" They are sadly mistaken. I hate AFI, can't stand Glen Danzig, and only like a few Metallica songs, and that's just because some of them are fun to play on guitar.
