Today i got a fish (named beau) and he is in his new tank. I put rocks in the bottom. But he is trying to dig to the bottom. And earlier he got stuck!! and then he was floating on his back and his eyes were bugging out but now he is fine! what does this mean???

Fish seem to have a habit with digging in the bottom if there are rocks. Often, they seem to enjoy picking up the rocks in their mouth, sucking them in, then spitting them out. I have a large goldfish that makes it a habit. He just does it because he's a pig, and doesn't think he's fed enough. -_-; There was a time, when he inhaled a rock though, and was kind of choking on it before he managed to spit it out. It sounds like that is what may have happened to your fish, since it sounds just like he looked.

Sounds like a classic case of "slabbing",a frequent method of death in African Cichlid tanks. The only way to avoid this is to be sure that the rocks are solidly supported by the bottom of the tank,in a manner that will prevent them from moving if all of the gravel around them is moved. This is basic tank set-up science, you never just rest rocks on the gravel.
Hope your pet is OK. Move those rocks deeper.

Some fish eat pebbles to help balance their body in the water, or get food from the outside of the rock. It's really difficult, I've had curious bettas who swim behind the filter, hide under rocks etc.

You can't really tell 100% whats wrong, but I think he's just biting off more pebble than he can eat.

no,your fishy is not killing himself, hes merely looking for leftover food that has dropped to the bottom between the rocks.this is normal fish behavior.enjoy him,i have two goldfish and i love to talk to them.theyre so graceful!

I think he might have swallowed a rock when it was digging in earlier. My fish well do that once in awhile when they eat.
