How can I find out what my D drive reads and writes to the best?

Experimentation will work.

If it can handle both then it probably won't matter all that much what you buy.

try right clicking on the drive and look up properties then hardware if it says "dvd/cd-rom" drive then it should play both + or -, thats what mines says and i've used both

well if its a new pc its prolly both cdr-dvd other wise get the info from the properties of the drive

Most computers can play both.
