So far you are handling this exactly as I would have. My wife and I have friends who are somewhat simliar to yours so I was able to put myself in this situation in my mind and here is what I would do. I would have second conversation with him and state much of what you have stated here. That they are basically good people, your wife values their friendship and you wish to continue doing the same. But since you already have told him once sometime ago about how his behavior made you uncomfortable and now it is a second time you are having this conversation, you are not so sure how you will react if he continues. There is no reason to tell him you wanted to smack him, ( I probably would have), just don't let on what you will do if it happens again. A little doubt in his mind is never a bad thing. I feel like I am a really nice guy, but many people have told me they would not want to get on my bad side. That can be pretty powerful. Best of luck man...I am actually interested how this turns out

What is a good board game for a very intelligent couple?
My dad and step-mom are SUPER intelligent and they love playing board games/games in general. Does anyone know of any? Thanks!

If there are already chess players then perhaps, a variatiopn of the game which involves a different sized board and additional pieces. Gothic Chess is played on an 8x10 board (8 ranks by 10 files), and intorduces the Archbishop which combines the moves of Knight and Bishop, and the Chancellor combining the moves of Knight and Rook. Due to the wider board and extra material, there are increased attacking possibilities, and gaining a material advantage isn't as important but protecting the the safety of the king and activity of pieces heightens in relevence.
Alternatively you could go for Omega chess, played on a 10x10 board, and includes an additional square in each of extreme corners. In addition to the regular pieces, each player starts with 2 champions, which can jump 2 squares in any direction or one square orthogonally (forwards, backwards or to the side) and 2 wizards which move by jumping 1,3 or 3,1 in any direction, or 1 space diagonally. The wizards will always remain on their starting colour. Also pawn's have the option of being able to move 1, 2 or 3 spaces forward on the first move only, after which their movement is the same as standard chess.

Try "Catch Phrase" I work in a game store and it's the most popular game. Just cause someone is really smart doesn't mean you have to get a super smart game. This one is fun for groups of people. Take turns making up different phrases.
If that doesn't work...try Trivial Pursuit for the 80s. My dad likes that game and he is smart. See how much they remember from the 80s!

Sequence is a very fun game. In sequence you are delt cards and then play cards and place chips (poker, not potato) on the corresponding spot on the board. You must get five in a row to win. Very fun!!! Scatagories is also fun. Everyone has a list of catagories (everyone's is the same list) and there is a 26 sided letter die. Roll the die, then try to think of a word in each of the catigories that starts with the letter on the die. BOTH AWESOME GAMES!!!!!

I recommend any game with the gold "Mensa Select" label.
Mensa members get together every year, play the new games, and choose 5 favorites for the year.
"Kaliko" is a great game. (Invented by my brother's math professor.) It is available through Kadon, and unfortunately is rather expensive. It is for 2 through 4 players.
For just the two of them to play together, "3 Stones" and "Zertz" are both pretty good. "Go" is an ancient game, but still good. "Blokus" is fun, but for 2 people get the travel size because the regular board is too big for 2 people. Or you could get them "Super Scrabble".
If they like games with a group of people, some good ones are "Scattegories", "Trivial Pursuit" (the genus versions), "Imaginiff", "Apples to Apples", and "Tabloid Teasers". These have been favorites at Mensa games parties I've been to. Not all are that cerebral, but they are all fun.

Ingenious (like a more challenging dominoes).
Check BoardGameGeek.com. You will find lots of recommendations. Don't listen to all these other answerers who list the games you can get at WalMart or Target.

For the super-intelligent, there used to be a great game called "Facts in Five." They don't make it any more, but you can find it on Ebay for cheap. The great thing about it is that you have a lot of freedom to pick categories and stuff that you know alot about and hopefully your opponent does not; but then you have to draw letters, and sometimes you get really awful letters that make even the easiest category difficult. My older sister and I still play this game whenever we get together, and -- dammit -- she still beats me every time!
A new game called "Wow Cranium" is really a blast, but it is more of a team game and has more to do with trivia and acting stuff out, drawing and being silly than with knowledge.

You should buy them MY game! :-) It is called Wits & Wagers and it won more industry awards during it's first year on the market than any other party game in history!
It is a trivia betting game and it is now available at Target. Part of the game is making good guesses and part of the game is knowing which one of your friends answer to bet on (depending on the topic of the question). It is a lot of fun.
