Wow, teen novels these day are VERY different! I will suggest a wide range of genres within teen fiction, so be prepared!
Twilight series-simply excellent. Don't let the vampire theme fool you!
A Great And Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray-
alternate between shivering with fear under the covers and literally laughing out loud! A Victorian era gothic with a surprisingly modern heroine and characters. Be prepared to be surprised!
The Uglies, Pretties, Specials, Extras quartet by Scott Westerfeld-
A TRUE action/sci fi thriller! If you enjoy fast-paced action, these books (and anything by Westerfeld) are for you.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare-
Flawlessly blends everyday troubles and romances with the supernatural. This book really has everything! Hope you like plot twists! Think Twilight, times 100 (yes, rabid Twilight fans, I am serious!)
Ellen Hopkins-
I am not suggesting a particular book, but everything Hopkins has writen! She does write in poetry, but don't be fooled. She has a flare for writing true, heartwrenching stories with relaistic endings. Hopkins has written Crank (the sequel is Glass), Burned, and Impulse. She is currently working on another novel, Identical.
Meg Cabot-
More of a "teen girl" writer, she is entertaining, witty, and easy to relate to. She has writen many books, although her most popular are the Princess Diaries and the Mediator Series.
Eragon (and Eldest) by Christopher Paolini-
a hero story about a boy and his dragon. I know that it sounds corny but they are truly outstanding books!
Harry Potter books-
Enough said!
Happy reading!

My first suggestion would be to visit your local public library and get a library card so that you can sample all the different books for free - and then you can buy the ones that you really want to keep rather than buying things that you may not like. By visiting your local library you should also be able to connect with a young persons librarian who can recommend books that are normally held by that library - rather than just teasing you about all the cool books that are out there that you can't find in your local bookstore.
Here are some title suggestions too:
Peeps by Scott Westerfeld
An awesome new twist on the vampire mythology that has another book in the series that isn't quite a sequel called End of Days.
Beast by Ally Kennan
A boy in foster care keeps a monster hidden from his foster family - but the monster is getting bigger and he is not sure how much longer he can keep it a secret.
Jinx by Meg Cabot
Jean is known as Jinx to her family because everything sems to go wrong about her - but things go from bad to worse when she finds out that her cousin is a black witch. Just a touch of romance to keep it bouncy and light.
Beastly by Alex Flinn
An amazing twist on the Beauty and the Beast story that will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat. An interesting blend of writing and chat room keeps the writing moving at a fast pace. I loved this book.
Slut? by Kerry Coehn Hoffman
Jessica is about to learn some life lessons the hard way as she is thrust into an adult world that she may not be ready for.
Chicks with sticks: it's a purl thing by Elizabeth Lenhard
A series about girls who become friends over a knitting group. Not as lame as it sounds as real life keeps getting involved.
Good luck finding something to read.

If you like reading non-fiction, about what goes on nowadays - I recommend these two -
1) "Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader"
written by Bradley K. Martin
2) "Rogue Regime"
written by Jasper Becker
These two well-written books give an insight about the North Korean Government.
Fiction?
Try all the books written by Clive Cussler (mystery/adventure/drama type). I would suggest you start the books from the first; some of the story lines tend to follow into subsequent novels.
The hero is Dirk Pitt, with his sidekick Al Giordino. These fiction books by Clive Cussler are well-written.
