We fly into Narita at around 9.30 am on the 14th of Jan. and back out at around 2100 on the 16th. We are sking in Europe over Christmas and just want to have a quick look at a reasonably priced ski area, with more traditional type accomodation. We will then plan a longer trip next year.

If you haven't already booked the ticket, it might make sense to fly into Kansai and then catch a flight to Nagano airport rather than use Narita. To get from Narita to Nagano city I would suggest taking the bus from the airport to Omiya and then catching the Nagano Shinkansen.

Given that you don't have much time, you might want to go to Gala Yuzawa on the Joetsu Shinkansen line as the train station is directly in front of the lifts. You can put your boots on in the train and then hop right on the lift. Yuzawa onsen has lots of traditional accommodations. It's the setting for the novel "Snow Country".

Try the overnight bus, we took that to go to a ski resort in Nagano from Shinagawa. Narita to Shinagawa isn't too far by train, and many overnight buses depart from there.

Or, you may even find something that goes directly out of Narita to Nagano!

Good luck and have fun!
