My 1996 dodge caravan was fine until i felt my steering wheel very hard i try turning and it was very hard to turn. I parked and checked power steering fluid and it was empty . I noticed that the belt fell off completely i installed the belt back on everything is fine but now when i put the car to drive or reverse i hear a weird noise like is something is hitting .... when i put it in park theres no noise ... what can it be ? please help

it could very possibly be that you have a bad motor mount.the powersteering pump is pretty close to the a-frame.when you go to accelerate the engine will be twisted back alittle under normal conditions,but if you have a bad motor mount it will rock back farther than it should. that will cause the powersteering pump pulley to rub on the a-frame.this could be causing the belt to fall off.also check to make sure the belt tensioner is not bad.

this is both the incorrect belt, put in the incorrect side dealing with in, or between the pulleys is out of alignment. the stress may be off to boot. regardless of a tensioner, you nonetheless want a gauge. The spec should be on the belt course sticky label lower than the hood.

did the belt break due to old age or did a pulley or tensioner seize...did you check the pulley before you install belt..a pulley might be loose...get someone else to help you check it..let them put it in drive and hold the brake..while you fine the noise..
