The Rose Bowl wanted a traditional matchup. Since OSU is in the championship game, they needed another Big 10 team.

Politics and the Rose committee's love for a Pac 10 versus Big 10+1 matchup. Missouri should have gone BCS before Kansas but Kansas was the feel good choice. Arizona State was a victim of too few spots available after over-rated Hawaii got the Sugar.

there wasn't any room for Ariz State. Most BCS game spots are auto. bids for conference champions. The Rose Bowl committee got to choose the team and it was either gonna be another Big 10 team for tradition or a team that earned a BCS at-large bid. So it would've been UGA/Mizz/Kansas or illinois and they chose illinois. Damn punks- UGA would've been a better opponent. So Ariz didn't really get robbed. The only team to really get robbed was Mizz.

bowl tie ins.. they rode OSU's coattails.. the Rose Bowl is obligated to take the Big 10 champ.. and if the Big 10 champ is unavailable.. they'll look first at the Big 10 #2.. which is Illinois.. not saying Arizona St doesn't deserve a BCS bid but stuff happens

OK ASU in the Rose Bowl would have been bad, I grant people that, but why not a different Bowl? It is likely just because they wanted a Pac-10/Big-10 match-up. Well I think the BETTER TEAMS should go.

If you think Arizona St. is a better team than Illinois, you know nothing about football. Illinois beat #1 Ohio St. and Wisconsin (#5 at the time they played). Arizona St. lost to the ranked teams they played (Oregon, USC).

Becuase the BCS is jacked up and worthless. Its the lamest concept ever. If you think the BCS is any good you should hit yourself in the head with a tack hammer. ASU or Mizzou should have gotten that spot. Since Illinois was the next on the list for the big 10 after OSU they got the spot by default.

only because the tournament of roses wanted a big 10 / pac-10 match-up. no other reason. illinois would have gone to no other bcs game other than the rose bowl.

the rose bowl likes Pac 10 vs Big 10 match ups. that is the only reason. a big 10 team was eligible and the Rose Bowl picked them.
