They don't ask you to "swear to god" anymore - not for years. Nor or you required to swear on a bible......
If, when asked if you will tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth, you say no, they will treat you as a hostile witness.

More than likely, if you refuse to swear or affirm you will be held in contempt of court and possible jailed.

thrilling question, truly. i assume it may be dealt with comparable to in case you had refused to honor a subpoena, meaning you are going to be able to desire to be charged with Contempt of courtroom. you would be there, yet you would be refusing to respond to actual. you are going to be able to desire to not be charged with perjury, given which you had not been sworn and had given no testimony. somewhat than refusing to swear, i think of i could merely invoke my 5th modification proper to refuse to respond to questions pondering the reality that i could incriminate myself. this would not consistently artwork besides as human beings think of it is going to, however. There are circumstances whilst the final can not be invoked. which includes in Grand Jury complaints that are actually not trials.

If you're a non-believer, you can do an affirmation instead of swearing.

You don't say no. It doesn't happen. If you were to, the judge would glare at you and kick you out, maybe even fine you for conduct unbecoming.

Good point. I think it's quite outdated that we are using christian based verbal agreements in our court-system.
