In CA I made a % of what I billed (receivable). Out here it seems to be hourly and I'm not sure if I'm getting screwed or not by this company. It seems low - but maybe salaries are just low out here?!

A survey of medical billers in the Los Angeles Area showed an average annual salary of $29,028 (you may have made more, but this was the average for the largest CA city). In a survey of medical billers in San Antonio, TX it was found that they had an average annual salary of $24,356. While this is obviously less, a comparrison of the cost of living of the 2 cities indicates you need an annual salary of $23,445 to equal the average salary of a medical biller in Los Angeles. Therefore, in general, while you might make less, you will have a higher standard of living in San Antonio. As ffperki has suggested, you may be better off contracting on your own, or trying to set up a contract for a percentage of collections.

To begin with salaries are very low here as compared to California, I really don't know what a company would pay you but I do know a woman who does medical billing at home for doctors Offices that are to small to have a billing department and she works about 30 to 40 hours a week and earns over $70,000, You might consider going in business for your self, her reason for starting her business was because she wanted to be at home for her kids and then she also liked the idea that if she wanted to take off and get her hair done she could. while still earning a very good living,.....just an Idea

Salaries here are low...but you haven't noticed the cost of living is also? Please, in CA a $750,000 house, you can get here for $150,000 easy.
