Anybody who says it is easy are wrong and anybody who says its extremely hard is wrong. It is only as hard as you make it. You will be required to do more work and the work is much harder than high school. But there is usually more time to do it and you will learn way more than what you ever did in high school. All you gotta do is study when you have to study, do you homework when it needs to be done, and keep your grades up and college will be the best years of your life. So work hard, take breaks, make many new friends, and have fun.

O yea...grad school is much harder than undergrad. I no from experience.

It really depends on what college you attend and the program you are in. I'm in an honors program and although I'm an undergraduate, most of the work I've experienced has been more difficult than the work my friends in masters programs have been completing.

It also depends upon what kind of a student you are. Anything less than an A for me is unacceptable. If you're out just to get B's, college may be plenty of easy. But you're really going to have to go that extra mile to get the A. I spend most of my time studying and I have exceptionally long papers due on a weekly or monthly basis, longer than anything you've probably ever dealt with in high school. The longest papers I dealt with in high school were around 10 pages, now they're around 30.

I really don't think college is easy. It's all about time management, and if you attend school and have a job, it can be very difficult. Plus, if you become a student leader (lead on campus groups) you will find your time very hard to manage. I truly think that a lot of these people that say high school is harder than college just have not had the same experience as those who think its difficult. Maybe they went through an easier college program, I'm not sure. I would say that college is in no way easy, however. Not if you're aiming for perfection. On the other hand, I think it is easy to pass. Easy to pass, not easy to excel.

Edit:
SMS made a note about majors that are non science or math related being easy, and that is absolutely not true. Yes, some non science and math majors may be easier. As a Public Policy major, I deal with computer programs, statistics, economic equations, etc. and so forth so just because you aren't majoring in math doesn't mean you won't have to grasp difficult concepts.

What most people find so hard about college is adjusting to college life. Many people skirt through high school without ever really having to study, or ever really having to work hard. So adjusting to classes where you can't cram the night before the exam is difficult for some people. Also, in college the professors don't make you come to class, or make you study, or make you do your work. You are an adult now and responsible for yourself. If you don't want to go to class, no one can make you. If you don't want to do the work, no one can make you. But if you don't attend lectures, if you don't study, you don't do well. Adjusting to this freedom, to having to be responsible for yourself and have discipline, can be a difficult thing for some people.

Just learn to how you study best and develop good habits as far as attending classes and doing the work early on and you'll be fine in college. Some classes are hard, particularly the upper level courses, but for the most part it isn't that bad. Even the more difficult subjects are really all about learning how to study and keep up with the readings and work.

Motivation to study hard and do research is what college life is. There's more free time and more "adventurous" friends. A lot like high school without the parents.

Hi Natalie,

No higher edu is not. I am a high school teacher and from my experience it is easier in college than high school. There is more independent time and flexibility in the schedule than high school. 12 units (4 classes) is considered full time vs. 6 in high school. Some times you only meet once a week, so it is good for procrastinators.
