if/when the effects of global warming are life/society changing?

Believers. People who Believe they can Change the world. But more importantly the Believers must be Do-ers as well :)

There is no one job or important job. And not being able to see the future makes it impossible to tell. But people willing to try is what we need!!!: )

Farmers - They keep us alive
Transporters - They see that the farmers CAN keep us alive. They move things to where they are needed.
Teachers - Help explain this to us, amongst other things
Scientists - Find out new things for the teachers to teach, and generally advance the species
Doctors - Stop bit falling off us, and keep us from shuffling off the mortal coil for as long as possible.
Engineers - Make things work. All of them.
Caretakers - If we didn't have these people, we would be waist high in our own filth.
Builders - Enough said. I can't make a house by myself.....

With the advent of global warming, possibly the most important neccesity will be owning a boat. And knowing how to work it. So the most important job, or the job of the most important person...would be Captain.

If we wouldn't have complicated this whole meses, we'd be self sufficient.

lawyers- haha no, hardly

doctors-for the continued existence of mankind? only if there is a all encompassing pandemic that only a doctor could solve- we survived these in the past with no doctors

President?- hardly, seems like these types are more apt to end our existence than keep us a float

Theologian? Sadly, see above

Farmer- yes.. that is a good one. with our HUGE population and small amounts of land suitable for crops...Probably do need this one.

Scientist. In the long term, the scientists may give us an out, or maybe they will just facilitate ending it all. Hard to say.

Philosophers- if we are talking about the kind that work at university and worry about tenure rather than doing philosophy- nope, we don't need them.

Good question, sadly, one without certain answers. I suppose that farmer's and scientists seem like 2 important ones.

Despite the answers of everyone before me, I have to thoroughly disagree with them all.

Your question implies that 'JOBS' are Vital to Mankind. A job, by definition implies 'work for hire' which instantly dictates an automated structure for people to live and thus abolishes any newer or more true freedom that a society could hope to establish.

If I have a job, then I must work FOR someone, that person either works for himself or for someone else. Eventually, someone is benefiting from all this hard work.
The ultimate goal is a republic where that work is shared amongst the people and its rewards divided amongst the people.

As long as people are people, they don't need jobs, they need just endeavors; the satisfaction in knowing a job well done.

If mankind seeks a future, it only needs to seek sustenance (food/water), build/maintain shelter, and remember to procreate.

That would literally be impossible to list. As an example there is the administrative line, record keeping. Is it importand to keep track of all the non-green forces out there to lnow how to fight it. There are thousands and thousands and thousands of just admin jobs. How do you want to qualify and quantify those? Then you start on all of the other types of jobs, just consider manufacturing? How many millions of different jobs are we up to, and they are all important to our future, some helping, and some hurting which creates more helping.

That raises a question that is buried in my answer. How important is a job that damages the global warming, but because of this job, and without it, a solution finding job would not be created?pp

Sea Captains will be the most important jobs. Well will all be adrift on the seas on big ocean liners, like in water world. There will be no land left.
