The Microsoft Windows XP platforms has the Lic., on the side of the CD, or on the front of the CD. If your platform is not legal, Microsoft will scan your pc with their Genuine Advantage Tool, to see if the Lic., is legal. If it is not legal, you can be shut down by Microsoft. Plus they can bring criminal charges against you.

You will not be able to ever use your new platform that is legal , if they so desire as they have a copy of your entire system and IP address.

You'll have to call Microsoft if you lost your CD KEY, which should be located on the folder or Cd case that held your Windows XP CD.
