The whole BCS system is a joke.
It is a popularity game and not about the best teams playing each other.
There will be a playoff system in the next 3 years like there should be. That means that a team ranked 20th could win it all by proving they can beat the best teams they were not able to play during the regular season.

Oh, you mean Over-rated State University?? Because of a severly flawed and biased NCAA system...and also by fluke with Mizzou & W. Virginia tanking this past weekend.
Here's my solution to the problem:
There is still a "top 25" ranking system, but at the end of the season there is a playoff format involving the top 8. In playoff weekend one, #1 plays #8, #2 plays #7 and so on. That would weed the top 8 down to 4. The winning teams would be ranked #1 to # 4 in order of what they were the week prior. For example, #1 loses to #8, #2 beats #7, #3 beats #6, #5 beats #4. The next weekend, #2 is the new #1, #3 becomes #2, #5 becomes #3 and because #8 upset #1, they are now #4.
The next weekend, #1 plays #4 & #2 plays #3.
The winners of those two games meet in the National Title game and the 6 other losing teams would still have ample time to be invited to play in & prepare for other bowl games, or play in a designated bowl game because of the conference the team may be in. For example, let's say LSU won the SEC and finished at #3, but lost in the first playoff weekend. They'd be out of the National Title playoffs, but because they are SEC champs, they'd still play in the Sugar Bowl. On the other hand, let's say they were one of the last two teams standing after the playoff and were to play in the N.T. game, the losing team of the SEC championship game would then play in the Sugar Bowl.
I don't know if this type of playoff format has already been thought of or what, but to me it makes sense as it would sort out the "pretenders" from the "contenders" in the top 8. The season's length wouldn't really need to extended either as this would decide who's playing where in two weeks.
Like I alluded to above, the NCAA football ranking system seems to be more of a beauty pageant & popularity contest than a talent show.

yeah OSU has no talent...all of the best talent comes from the SEC. That is why OSU continues to put the most players in the NFL (based on NFL scouts - the best judge of talent in the world). Yeah, OSU continues to make college football look like a joke by having the best winning percentage in football over the past 10 years. You guys are f-ing retarded and just jealous b/c OSU continues to perform at a high level year in and year out because they recruit well and have the best coach in college football.

I don't think they make College football look like a joke, just the BCS. Almost everyone knows they need a playoff system, but those of us who know aren't making the money off the BCS. Get rid of the present NCAA/ BCS committee and put people in that aren't lining thier pockets and can make a legitimate decision.

yes OSU is a joke. OSU fans- stop claiming what OSU has down before last season. We are referring to this season and this season only (except the ones who keep reminding you of last years azz kicking). You don't deserve this game- it wasn't earned. Neither game earned it. LSU had two chances and blew both.
This BCS has shown this season that it is a *****' joke...
and Paul your claim is ridiculous because illinois shouldn't be in that BCS game. Mizz or UGA should be there. A team that loses THREE games does not deserve a BCS game. So once again a Big 10 team gets something they don't deserve.

Because OSU is the ONLY team to have only lost to another team that is also playing in a BCS Bowl game. Seems like that is qualification enough.

It comes down to conferences and their BCS alliances. Politics! I wouldnt say Ohio State is a joke! They might not be a top 2 team this year, but look at all the talent that becomes successful in the NFL level. Conferences go in waves as far as their competitiveness. Whether you like it or not, they are there! Wouldnt it be funny if they actually won? Then what would writers say?

Because all the double losers folded like umbrellas???
If THE OTHER TEAMS hadn't CHOKED a couple of times OSU would be elsewhere.
So I guess OSU AND LSU ARE THERE BECAUSE ALL THE OTHER TEAMS ARE ACTUALLY BIGGER JOKES!!

How come nobody had a problem when WVU was going to be playing for the NT. Their schedule was horrible (i.e. Maryland was best nonconference game)

they absolutely will get smoked again because the SEC is 20 times >>>> than the big ten. i thought they figured that out last year. this game will be an embarassment. who cares if osu was 11-1 they played sh*t teams all year. just like they did last year, and what happened when they played florida? LSU had to play 7 ranked teams that is ridiculous. USC/LSU would have been a way better game....
the SEC championship should just be the national championship too. FUUUUCK OHIO STATE!
