The only way of 'treating' PCOS that I have heard of so far, is to take the drug 'Clomid'. However, I have heard that it causes depression as well as mood swings.

I suffer from a sever case of PCOS, but also from mild depression and God knows I'm the moodiest person around! :-D

Are there any other ways of treating PCOS, besides Clomid?

I also have PCOS. The main drugs of choice tend to be birth control pills and/or Metformin. Clomid is generally only used for those women trying to conceive, and can sometimes increase the discomfort from ovarian cysts. The birth control pills do help with regulating the menstrual cycle,a and the Metformin is to help with the blood sugar. Women with PCOS are very prone to type II diabetes and cholesterol problems so they should follow a recommended diet and exercise program, but some need the Metformin to help with the sugars, or as a preventative of sorts. Not to prevent diabetes, but to help the sugars stay in check as best they can. I also take Fluoxetine (generic Prozac) to help with the mood swings, and it does a very good job. I no longer take the BCP, as they worsen another condition that I have-I had to choose the lesser of 2 evils. Drugs may also be needed to help with the cholesterol and triglycerides. My bad cholesterol is good, but my good cholesterol is bad, so I take Niacin to bring that up. Work with your internist, and OB doc, as well as an endocrinologist, and together they can decide on the best course of treatment. The Niacin, Fluoxetine, Doxycycline (for acne-works wonders!), diet, and exercise have done wonders for me...keeping my cholesterol and blood sugars in check by keeping my weight down and keeping me active. Good luck!

Dry and/or greasy skin due to poor oil composition of the skin. Thick greasy oils clog pores, lack of oil leads to dryness and irritation. You need thin oils to moisturize while dissolving and clearing gunk in your poors. Try fish oil or seafood. 2 tsp fish oil a day or 4 servings of seafood a week. Stick it out for at least 2 months; it will take a long time to replace all your oil. Any effect after 1-2 days is temporary or random; so even if it makes you break out a little at first, you haven't given it a full try yet.

In the short term you can wash and moisturize well, but that will only go so far. Plus excessive washing can be drying and excessive moisturizing can be clogging. Use a small amount of a light moisturizer, made with oil not jelly or grease. Often that means soybean oil or mineral oil. Mineral oil means mined from the ground. So soybean oil is usually better, though mineral oil won't cause too much harm. Clean with soap and water, not a harsh acne cleanser. Even then they only work so well. So you really need the seafood.

Antibiotics aren't really good for bacteria long term, they'll come back in force after. Short term they may help. After you get off them find some kefir with acidophilus listed first or 2nd to replace the friendly bacteria they destroyed. Studies show less illness when you have these bacteria, even outside the stomach in places such as the lungs and elsewhere. You want friendly bacteria to fill the void when the antibiotics stop, not harmful ones.

In the short term you might also try 100,000+ iu retinol vitamin A (a megadose, and too much for normal use) or one of the acne drugs that is similar to retinol vitamin A. It's some minor harm to your organs, but it helps against bacteria on your skin. At least it doesn't have the other long term drawbacks to your skin that antibiotics and many scrubs do.

I also have PCOS. Clomid is only to help you get pregnant. Taking birth control will help keep your body in a monthly cycle. Which is a good thing especially with PCOS. I take Metformin to help with the sugar levels and it helps with weight loss. I'm also on anti depressants. I'm also on acne medication. Just by treating the symptoms you are treating the pcos. Good Luck

Someone else mentioned Metformin. Ask your doctor about it. It is actually a med used to treat diabetes but has a side effect of shrinking cysts and promoting ovulation. Much like Viagra was once a heart med but had the side effect of you know what. Anyway, I was on it for about 2 years. I also lost some weight during that time. The results were normal hormone levels and a baby boy. Good luck to you!! Ive been there

I also have PCOS and my doctor put me on Glucophage. It is a drug used in diabetics but also helps control symptoms of PCOS. Also, ask if you can be put on a mild anti-depressant such as Lexapro. You will be feeling better is no time! :)
