attorney at law = lawyer = counselor at law = member of the bar.

Esquire is often added as a sign of respect to a lawyer's name, Charles Barkley, Esq., but does not necessarily mean lawyer, as illustrated.

An attorney usually means an attorney at law, but an attorney in fact is an agent, as in a power of attorney in which a person grants authority to act to another person, the attorney in fact.
