Maybe we wouldn't have so many highschool dropouts if they were required to attend school until they were 18. By then they will be juniors or seniors and see no reason to drop out. True or not so true? Open to all thoughts, ideas, and opinions.

I live in PA and it's 16. What is your dropout age? How do you feel about it? Are dropouts destined to be losers?

The dropout age in NY is 18 unless you go to work full time and can prove it.

Keeping people against their will in school for another two years might not be productive. Most would be failures, they would not pass classes, take up teacher time and school resources and be an additional burden to taxpayers.

I don't think there should be a dropout age. I think here it's mandatory for everyone under 18 to attend school. I mean if you're allowed to leave school when you're 16 then what's the point?

I think they are hoping that if you make it that far, that you will just continue because most people need at least a highschool degreen no matter what they do. So unless you are unbelievably gorgeous and a model or an actress or independently wealthy, stay in school until you graduate. Its your best option because working for a living isn't all its cracked up to be!

I think that is a good drop out age. 16, I mean. Some people just can't handle school. They would be much better off by dropping out and getting jobs.

For many, high school is little more than day detention. They don't want to be there. However, they are there because it is required by law. These individuals, interfere with students who really want to earn, and waste the resources of the school system. Compelling such individuals to stay another two years, would be another two years of interference and waste.
