In my spare time I am a beta tester for just about every antivirus/spyware software in the world. Don't think very much of AVG antivirus. A good antivirus will tell you that it can be "cleaned", or needs to go into the "vault, or that you need to clean, and reboot in order to kill the virus.
If this is a paid antivirus, you should look into what I use and the Govt., Of China uses. You only pay a one time fee of $29.99 for life, an includes daily updates and all new versions for life. Plus excellent support from the developers. State of the art technology that is light years ahead of any other antivirus program on the market. I have never had one virus in ten plus years.
You can download the full program and test for thirty days with a registration key that they will give you for thirty days. After thirty days you must make the one time purchase for life.

If you want free, you can download Avast, and you will get auto updates on the hour, plus background scanner. http://www.avast.com
Just remember that you can only run one antivirus program, or you will have serious conflict with your system.
You can use, three or four antispyware programs, as one will always find what the others miss. (That is if you have the resources for three or four). Myself I use four.
Download the free version of Superantispyware. This program will find spyware, trojans that all other miss and there is no conflict with your existing antivirus program. I use the program myself. You will get auto. updates and all new versions free. http://www.superantispyware.com

sometimes viruses can infect system files and program files required for certain programs to run. With that being said, if you have AVG delete an important file or send that file to vault so that it is inaccessible there is a small chance it will stop something from working. With that said, I would heal when it can, if it can't then send to vault. Also get yourself Adaware and run that. make note of where these viruses/trojans are found. if they are found in software applications you dont need them uninstall those apps. What happens is sometimes these malicious programs are programmed to reinstall themselves when you reboot, so you need to remove there source files/programs.

What you'll find is that your System Restore has made a copy of the infected file ... AVG is removing the virus part and each time you restart your computer System Restore looks and says "this file should be this size because thats what I have here " and reloads the virus into the file ... turn off your System Restore ... do a complete scan .... restart your PC then turn System Restore back on

You should consider more comprehensive security software for your PC, if all you're running is antivirus. here are some recommendations from available freeware:
firewall:
Comodo (http://www.comodo.com), or
PC Tools (http://www.pctools.com/firewall)
Comodo recently released version 3.0 of its firewall, which adds an intrusion prevention component that's very effective.
antivirus: (listed in order of preference)
Avira (http://www.free-av.com)
AVAST! Home (http://www.avast.com)
AVG (http://free.grisoft.com)
all provide realtime protection and automatic updates; all have ICSA and VB100 certification, but Avira has been among the highest rated in tests by several respected US and UK computer publications.
antispyware:
Spyware Terminator (http://www.SpywareTerminator.com) or
Spyware Doctor (http://pack.google.com)
either one will give you good, realtime protection, along with
Ad-Aware Free (http://www.lavasoftusa.com) and
Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org) for additional removal ability.
