A chicken is a chicken, an egg is a potential chicken. Actuality supersedes potentiality. The boy who is molested as a child will more likely grow up to become a child molester. It is not written in stone. Change his environment, and change the boy. Ever heard "The apple doesn't fall from the tree", "Like father like son". It assumes that the offspring will grow up to be just like the parent. The potential is there, but actually, we are all individuals and can choose our own path. During times of war, more males than females are born. During times of peace, more girls are born.

egg. since the first chicken must have originated as an egg. Girls. Although with china and India aborting females that may be changing.

life starts from simple to complex i.e from single cellular to multicellular so it continued . it sound strange that the ancestors of a big elephant ,chordate, were small echinoderms that give rise hemichordates .but its true .
keeping this principle from simple to complex, in view, one can say egg came first because it is a single cell.
