Failure. No research has proven that abstinence-only education has worked, unlike sex education, where students actually know what sexual activity results in pregnancy.
There's a reason religion and politics don't mix. It's not effective. All the faith in the world won't help stop pregnancy if you have unprotected sex, even though it is a "sin".
The majority of Republican candidates are anti-choice, and most of them are courting the right-wing anti-contraception crowd as well, even Rudy. The Democrat candidates don't have to cater to such an unrealistic crowd, thank goodness.

As all these answerers have already said, it is the nature of humans to want to do things that they are told not to do. Instead of just saying not to have sex, schools should just say you know what? You don't care what we tell you and we know you're going to have sex anyway, so here are ways to have protected sex; condoms, birth control pills, etc. If you must do it, "this is the proper" way to do it or way to protect yourself. It could be good to say that people feel unsatisfied with condoms and want to penetrate more which will def lead to pregnancy or any sexually transmitted disease, etc. So its just better to wait than have unprotected sex. I think schools should also talk about the emotional effects of sex as well; how it feels to have a one-night stand, or to be pregnant and not have anyone help you, sexually transmitted diseases and how much more common they really are. And as much as I don't like suggesting it, people can masturbate; a way to please themselves without the bad effects as sex...... The point is to just to try to help the students rather than lose their attention and find themselves in bad situations. Abstinence-only sex education is definitely a failure...

It's been proven over and over that abstinence-only education doesn't work. When Clinton was president, he pushed comprehensive education, and teen birth rates dropped drastically. Bush was governor of Texas at the time, and his state improved the least. That says it all.

Abstinence Only programs sucks. Everyone seems to forget, Regular sex education tell kids about abstinence, without the lies and more information about sex and reproduction process.
I learned about birth control and condoms, but they always told me abstinence is the only 100% way to prevent pregnancy and the majority of STDs. Its not like they told us to go have sex after we left the class room.

Failure. I think it should be stressed that abstinence is the only way to be completely safe, but young adults/kids need to be educated in how to have safe and responsible sex.

It's a farce. The state of Texas, which has such a program in place, has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the nation.

Any ideologically motivated program, and this is religiously motivated, is bound to be proportionately failing to the type of behavior they are trying to control. A " blue " law that does not allow one to purchase liquor on Sunday is one behavior that can be controlled, but controlling the wide variance of human sexual behavior is a fools errand.

BIG FAILURE.
come on people, open your eyes. young adults are going to have sex, whether they have the proper education or not. they should at least be taught the correct ways to avoid an unplanned pregnancy or STD. you can instill all the good morals ever conceived in your child, but eventually that child will be making decisions for his or herself. and they will probably choose to have sex. my mother put me on Birth Control before i started having sex. we talked about it, she told me she preferred i wait, but she wanted me to be protected. and you know what? i didn't automatically go out and have sex. i waited.
