You are referring to a country where thousands of illegal immigrants pour IN every day, where there are hundreds of foreign language stations to accommodate the immigrants, both legal and illegal, where there are more lawyers per capita than any other nation on the planet to protect the rights of the individuals and businesses in the country, where there is a court system that can function to protect peoples' rights. Just so you know, there is no secret police rounding up ethnic minorities and political radicals. The police are not ordered to ignore the carefully planned attacks of political mobs. There are no concentration camps for political dissidents and racial and religious minorities. To say that your question is way off does not even come close to how wrong you are.

Yay! I get so tired of people jaywalking across dangerous city streets, sometimes in the dark and sometimes carrying children!

The ACLU protects basic constitutional rights. You do not have a constitutional right to endanger yourself, your children and the drivers of passing cars by illegally crossing the street.
