Hi..
I have been using a cool mist humidifier in my 14 month old sons room and I feel its making the room quite cold...the room is drafty to begin with, and in the winter this humidifier is making the air even more cold in his room. I am almost tempted to go in for a warm mist humidifier. Is that a good idea? Also, does anyone know of a good brand that works?

I am using the humidifier because I feel the heater i in the house is making the air very dry and many times my son has a little blood in his mucous because of that. But the cold of the humidifier bothers me.

Any suggestuions to make my son more comfortable? I too can feel my nose stuffy and dry so it must be hard for my son.

Please help.

I noticed above a few comments about the warm mist ones and bacteria. I've had a cool mist humidifier for years and it just broke at the beginning of this winter season. The new one I bought is a warm mist humidifier. The directions that came with it say it's important to do DAILY and WEEKLY maintenance... daily being drain the water and wipe everything off with a damp cloth, and weekly being cleaning it with vinegar. It's a lot of work just to put a little moisture in the air, and I'm guessing with a baby, you don't need one more chore to do. However, I did find a product made by Protec called a cleaning cartridge that you just drop in the tank and it keeps cleaning for 30 days. So that is an option. I do find that the warm mist keeps my room warm. So I would recommend that if you go with a warm mist, make sure the store you shop at has something like the cleaning cartidges in stock.

Warm mist humidifiers can cause burns if the baby gets ahold of it. Maybe if you put the cool mist outside of his door and then leave his door open. That would help you and him and not keep his room so cold.

i have the cool mist one too, and the room is a little chillier. i just have to turn up the heat (even though gas prices are sky high and i sweat my butt off), because my daughter and son are still in cribs and don't use blankets. i try to put them in warmer p.j.s, but i do have to crank the heat a little. i talked to the pharmacist about that problem, but she said the warm mist ones are a breeding ground for bacteria and it will just spit the bacteria into the room. so that's why i went with the cool mist one.

I have always just added another blanket and maybe an extra layer of clothes. The cool mist is the best and the most safe. The warm mist ones can create mold I was told.

We've noticed that ours makes the room very cold, too. We just turned the heat up a bit more for him.
