Hi,
I am a parent of 17 years old. I found grass like stuff in his room. He insists that it is pizza seasoning. Is there definitive test that can verify that stuff is marijuana or not?

It really depends, if it is broken up in such a way, it can easily look like seasoning or something, but why would he have that in his room? The smell is the most distinctive, if you smell one marijuana, you can usually tell what other marijuana strains smell like. If it has an unnoticeable smell or a familiar smell it is most likely not marijuana. Also, redish hairs and white crystals are distinct visual properties of marijuana, although some strains are bright green or just plain. You could try rolling a small joint and taking a hit, that is a truly surefire way to tell, or maybe ask someone you know to hit it. Some other qualities, when handling it, it tends to cake onto your fingers, it can be extremely firm or soft, if it looks like grass it isn't marijuana. Marijuana is usually bought in buds which hold their shape and have one stem connected to a large fluffy mossy type thing. Sorry my answer is so incoherent, I hope it helps though.
P.S. Did you ever consider just asking him? Marijuana, although illegal, is not a bad thing in moderation, and if you show him that you are ok with the fact that he used it at some point but don't want him to continue then he should understand.

........ What teenager hides a bag of pizza seasoning in their room? Ask him where he got it, why its in a bag and not a jar, and why he felt the need to hide it, if its just seasoning. Ask some of your friends. Im pretty sure that somebody you know can correctly identify weed......which it probably is.

When it burns marajuana is kind of sweet smelling. The police will probably know what it is.. but I doubt you will wish to go that far.
