1/2x+1+3/8x=7
12/8x+1=7
-1 from both sides
12/8x=6
*8 both sides
12x=48
divide both sides by 12
x=4
OR
.5x+1+.375x=7
-1 from both sides
.5x+.375x=6
.875x=6
divide both sides by .875
x=6.8571438571428571429
i think.

1/2 + 3/8 = 7/8 because 1/2 is 4/8 and 4/8 plus 3/8 equals 7/8
7/8x + 1 = 7
subtract one to the other side
7/8x = 6
divide 7/8
x = 6 / 7/8
6 divided by 7/8 is the same thing as 6 multiply by 8/7
x = 6 X 8/7
multiply
x = 48/7

These types of problems are usually solved by getting the variable expressions on one side and getting the constants on the other:
Subtract 1 from each side: 1/2x + 3/8x = 6
From here, you can find the lowest common denominator for the coefficients of the variable x, which would be 8 ... then multiply each term on both sides by that number: 4x + 3x = 48.
(8 x 1/2x is 4x ... and ... 8 x 3/8x is 3x ... and ... 6 x 8 is 48)
Simplify: 7x = 48.
Divide both sides by 7: x = 48/7 (or x = 6 6/7)

If your question like this
(1/2)x + 1 + (3/8)x = 7
(8/2)x + 8 +3x = 7
4x + 3x = 7 - 8
7x = -1
x = - 1/7
x=0.1429
If your question like this
(1/2x+1) + (3/8x) = 7
2x + 1 + 8x / 3 = 1/7
6x/3+8x/3=1/7-1
14x/3 =-6/7
14x = -18/7
x = -9 / 49
x = 0.1837

First, I assumed your problem is really:
(1/2)x + 1 + (3/8)x = 7
[This will give you a huge difference in solutions from the problem you posted.]
Group your like terms on one side of the equation.
1/2 (x) + 3/8 (x) = 7 - 1
Combine and simplify each side.
Solve for x.
= = = == =
Interesting...after I posted this answer, there were 6 WRONG answers and 4 right answers.
= = = = = = =
Of course, this assumes that we all interpeted the question correctly (which was different than how it was posted!!!)
To clarify, this is how the question was posted (brackets added for clarity):
1/(2x)+1+3/(8x)=7
This is how we ALL solved it:
(1/2)x+1+(3/8)x=7

1/2x + 1 + 3/8x = 7
1/2x + 3/8x = 7-1
1/2x+ 3/8x = 6
multiplying equation by 8
(x8) : 8*(1/2x) + 8*(3/8x) = 8*(6)
> 4x + 3x = 48
7x = 48
x=48/7
x=6/6/7

Multiply both sides by 8:
4x+8+3x=56
7x+8=56
7x=48/7 or 6 6/7

6.82
1/2x =.5x
3/8x = .38x
.5x+1+.38x=7 subtract 1 from both sides
.5x+.38x=6 Combine the like variables
.88x=6 divide both sides by .88
x=6.82
Now plug it in .5(6.82)+1+.38(6.82)=7 and see if it works
3.41+1+2.60=7
7=7
Yep it works
