Couldn't say accurately without being there because there isn't quite enough info. While you are trying to start it keep an eye on the Tachometer. If it does not move at all while cranking you should check the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Several Kias and Hyundais I have dealt with recently from around that year (00-01) have had their CKPs go bad, but then again most have around 100,000 mls on them too...

Don't throw parts at a problem, diagnose first. If possible put a code reader on it, it might point out the problem. If not, read on, I've included a number of possible issues.
NO START but cranks
1st- check for good spark at the plugs. I use an old plug, clamp it to a good ground w/the plug wire attached.
2nd- if weak at step 1, try a jumper wire from coil output to a gap [such as the same test plug], if weak spark, verify full 12V at coil, if voltage present, replace coil. If not 12V, follow wiring diagram back, may have bad ballast resistor. If coil spark good, check cap/rotor for corrosion & check plug wires for less than 3,000 ohms of resistance per foot of wire. If this is a points ignition it may be due for points & condensor.
3rd- if spark appears okay then check for fuel &/or verify fuel pressure & volume. Check injector spray pattern. Check air filter. Dump a can of Dry-Gas in the tank, it may have moisture problems.
If possible check starter draw, it may be pulling too much current so there is not enough left for everything else.
Keep the battery charged while you work so you do not induce a phantom problem by running the battery low by too much cranking.
More NO-START
Possibly the battery in your keyless entry fob might be low, perhaps the weak signal is causing security system malfunction.
If still NG: Next, be absolutely certain that your battery connections, at both ends, are good. Buy a terminal cleaning tool. Replace any suspect connectors. Watch the battery terminal itself, if acid is leaking around it or it moves, replace the battery. Borrow a known good battery if possible.
If still NG: disconnect battery ground and then pull the large computer connector. If it is blade style use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts. The computer is usually near the glovebox, a Haynes or Clymer manual will help. Reconnect everything in reverse order.
Also, push all relays firmly into their sockets, if the problem is occurring, try tapping on each relay with a screwdriver handle, sometimes they stick. If tapping a particular relay resolves problem, replace.
Check the steering column switch, which is located at the bottom of the column, inside the car and operated by a rod coming from the key turn
Be patient & work methodically! A Volt Ohm Meter can be your best friend.

If you drove it very much, you probably noted a high-pitched whine when you turned the key on, just before you turned the key enough to make the starter crank. This was the fuel pump in the fuel tank running to build up pressure. This noise is probably absent now, and if it is, then you need to replace the fuel pump in the fuel tank. I went through this and it's pretty annoying. You have to drop the fuel tank to get to the pump, which is only accessible through the top of the tank. Before you do that, you will want to siphon the gas out, because the tanks are pretty big and they weigh a lot when they have fuel in them. When I changed my pump, it was around $150 just for the pump. You could have your mechanic friend check power to the pump, but if there is power there, but the pump is silent, then the pump is bad. You could check the fuse for the pump first, as that could be a quick fix. But if the fuse is blown, you can look forward to changing the pump anyway. as it's probably ready to fail and the power needed to operate it is starting to increase, thus blowing the fuse. The other symptom of this is when you crank it, it acts like the engine is trying to start but just can't get enough gas. That's the pump for sure. Good luck!

Does it turn over or not ? If it won't wurn over you may just need a jump start because the batterey is getting old and weak. Make sure the batterey connections are tight.

Water in your gas? Get an additive to pour in your tank to remove moisture. Also if it is starting but sputters, it could also be out of time.

could be bad fuel pump, or could be lots of other things, turning over but not cranking...lots of possibilities...bad crank sensor, plugs, coils, no fuel delivery..etc

maybe its your security or ignition problems or could just be a dead/weak battery...try getting some jump cables and charge it...see what happens, its probably that
