I was wondering which would be better for writing and editing drafts, a Mac or Windows. A friend of mine suggested that I look into a Mac Book or a Mac book Pro. Rather than going with a Mac. Windows machines are good for desktops, other than you can store a lot. I noted that windows can slow down, while three applications are running at the same time. A laptop is not a good idea, harder to upgrade. Vista laptops can be annoying; in what I call the five second delay. When it comes to writing or opening an application.
A desktop can annoy the hell out of you. After a friend confirmed that his windows desktop slowed down, even though it’s already juiced up.
I’m looking for a portal machine to do writing and editing. And listening to some tunes while striking the keyboards. Something that won’t go into the five second delay mode.
What are your thoughts?

Macs run Windows too.

It sounds like the Mac may be your best bet. I think you are leaning that way anyway.
Having said that, a PC running Vista Home Premium or Vista Pro with a minimum of 2Gig of fast RAM would be equally as good.
Have you considered using Linux instead of Windows? It is a very stable system and will do everything you are requesting.

forget the mac to expensive for what you need it for,

what you need is a normal desktop or laptop system.. dual core if you like.... stay away from windows vista what ever you do.

check out Linux, there are several excellent operating systems all free to download..along with all the software you will ever need also Free...

for an office system try out Open Office 2.3 free to download puts ms office 2007 to shame why spend money on software when you have no need to, Linux puts windows XP/Vista to shame..you can do more with linux than you will ever be able to do with vista..

Open office 2 is programmed by Sun Micro systems the java software company
Suse Linux is Novell's operating system (partners with microsoft)
check out anyone of these free excellent linux operating systems from the links below

did you know Dell, Hp, Compaq, support Linux but it is not advertised to the fact.... they make more money out of supplying Windows Vista...
food for thought
