How many rolls of wrapping paper do you go through before the holidays are over? 5, 6, 20?? What's the point of it anyways? You spend lots of YOUR hard-earnded cash on paper, that ends up being ripped and crumbled all over the floor. It's a waste!
Well here's my proposal: DON'T BUY ANY! Think of all the paper and future trees you could save by wrapping gifts with newspaper, or paper bags from the grocery store! You could use old homework assignments even! (only if you had good grades, of course) I've done it in the past, and it doesn't look tacky at all, but quite creative! What do you think? Will you help save the earth?

I used to love using brown paper on rolls, good for shipping and mailing. I put my own decorations on it with rubber stamps, stencils etc. After the holiday, turn the paper inside out and use it to send packages.
Additionally, I love the way Chinese Newspapers look as wrapping paper. When in Chinatown I pick up a few of yesterdays copies, and with red and gold ribbon, its a smash!
The colored comic pages from the Sunday paper make amusing wrapping paper.
Rafia, rope, string, etc make interesting ribbon alternatives and can be used practically after the season is over
There are lots of ways to wrap, be festive, and be kinder to the earth.
Thanks for a great question

I here you on the Don't Buy Anything front, it's the ultimate solution to all of the wasted paper.

However, it's always nice to at least be able to exchange a gift with those you love.

I've got the perfect solution for you.

This place called Tree Givers lets you buy the gift of earth's renewal by planting a tree in your loved one's names.

That's write, a tree will be planted in your recipient's name, which will help reforestation and make you breathe a little easier at night.

Plus, you order online, so no paper trail.

Check out this and some other ideas listed in my source article.

Good luck.

I bought 10 rolls just the other day...and can't wait to use it all! I love Christmas wrapping paper.

So no, I am not going to save the earth this year or any other year. Me not wrapping gifts isn't going to save the world.

:)

Al Gore wastes more energy in a month than you and I can conserve in a year.

My mom makes reusable bags out of material/fabric. You can buy it for all occasions-- you buy it once and use it for years :)
