It seems to me that anyone who does not agree with Israel's government on the treatment of the Palestinians is violently branded an anti-Semite in the media. Why does this name-calling occur?

Joe B - you are exactly the type of person that caused me to ask this question. I would assume that you are on the front lines of any discussion, yelling "anti-Semite!" at anyone who opposes your opinion. This has been a very interesting exercise.

Because Zionism depends on anti-Semitism to exist. If they could not present Israel as some kind of haven from anti-Semitic bigotry, no Jew would move there.

Otherwise, why would a worldly, cosmopolitan, mostly westernized people like Jews confine themselves to a little third-world backwater dictatorship like Israel?

If you examine the history of Zionism, its leaders have cooperated with all sorts of racists and anti-Semites, including Cecil Rhodes, Lord Balfour, the South African apartheiders, and Adolph Eichmann and other Nazi leaders. After all, the actual object of their movement is NOT to protect Jewish people or to fight racism and anti-Semitism - it's to construct that state! If the two are in conflict, guess which wins?

And every time an anti-Semite identifies all Jews with Israel, or all Israelis with the Zionist government, the Zionists win.

some human beings will think of that way, even though it truly should not be. it rather is like calling an attack on Iraq and Iran anti-islamic. we are actually not anti-islamic, merely anti-them. A war of words at united states of america may well be referred to as unchristian, however the only people who call faith into the question are those form of religious enthusiasts. which you would be able to answer your question, no it is not. you would be referred to as anti-semetic by some human beings, yet it rather is the popular public's courtroom. something very perplexing to win at in case you have a sparkling concept.

This just isn't true. I want you to show me one instance where somebody who disagreed with SPECIFIC POLICIES of the state of Israel was branded an anti-semite in the media. Now, if you argue that Israel has not right to exist, ect. then yes I would call you an antisemite. I would also want you to think about whether or not you direct similar criticism at other nations or if you only fixate upon Israel (the world's only Jewish state...as opposed to the 23 Arab/Muslim countries)

Because anyone who agrees with the palestinian agenda of pushing the Jews into the sea, which Hamas and former palestinian leader Yasser Arafat openly admitted was their goal IS an anti-Semite. People are just calling it what it is.

Why? For the same reason anyone who disagrees with abortion, homosexuality, birth outside of wedlock, and AlGore's global warming story gets slammed....it's the only way the LOSERS can keep feeling good about themselves.

Yellow Journalism.
Anti-Semite is a very strong, well-known word. It's a great thing to use to discredit the views of your opposition, regardless of the validity of those views.
