I usually tip 20% if I was happy with the service. I take 10% of the pre-tax amount and double it, then round it up. This is easy to do entirely mentally.
If I'm ok with the service but something to be desired, I tip 15%. I take the amount half way between what I did above.
If the service is sub-par, I tip 10%. That's easy.
If I am totally unhappy with the service, I either leave few cents or call over the manager to discuss.

the other answers here did not answer your question so i will. you do not need a calcular to do this. here is a very simple trick. if the bill is 34.78 and you want to tip 20% just take the decimal and move it once to the left making it look like this 3.478. The 3.478 is exactly 10% of 34.78 now double that number 3.478 + 3.478 it is somewhere around 6.9. so the 20% tip would be $6.90. if you want to give 15% then find 10% (3.478) and cut it in half. (1.75) then add the 10% to the 5%: 3.4+1.75 is approx $5. always give 20% unless the service was poor then tip accordingly to how poor the service was.

I usually double the tax, which is almost 8% where I live. So that's a 16% tip. You should tip 20% for really good service. So you figure $2 for every $10.

On my phone you go to tools and then click on Ez Tip Calc, you enter the total amount of the bill, the percent you want to leave, like 15 or 10 whatever and it will tell you how much the tip should be. Then if you are splitting the bill with someone, it will tell you how much each of you owes.

this is really easy I am a waiter so we always tip extremely well......I know haw it feels to get less than 15%. I'd just use the calculator and multiply your bill by 20% if the server has done a great job round up

For Me it depends on the service you get. But if all goes well I just double the tax and that is my tip. Look for eyecontact with the waiter/waitress they are paid to make us feel comfortable and to service us. Another words they better be kissing your behind. Double up!

What I do is go to tools and bring up calculator and enter the amount of the bill times 15 or 20 and that gives me the percent I like to leave. For instance if the bill is $31.00 and I want to leave 20% I multiply it and I get 6200.00 that is $6.20 tip
