I've noticed several college football players named Colt recently. Is there a reason this name became popular? Some pop culture reference from 20 years ago I'm not familiar with? Any theories?

My guess is it's from the character that Lee Majors played in the Fall Guy. I'm pretty sure that show was on about 20 years ago. I can't think of Colt's last name in the series, but you could search it out if you want to.

I think it is meant to define their kid as a young, energetic stallion-to-be. But a name like that in my high school - back in the day - would have gotten him picked on relentlessly.

But I suppose in today's "limp-wristed" society a name like Colt will turn one into an activist who can't tell one sex from another.

I think people get carried away with names, especially those pretentious last-names-as-first-names and those with 3 or 4 surnames.

I'd like to know what's wrong with Bill, John, Mike, Bob, etc.

I think it's just another one of those names that got really popular al of a sudden and now they are all the same it. It tends to go in spurts. I can't think of anything from 20 years ago, but maybe I am forgetting something!

It's pretty much a nickname for most of the players. Not many of them are actually named "Colt."
