My dad bought me my first knife when I was seven and I started collecting them short after. If a kid has a an interest in knives let him collect them, but parents have to decide if there child will be able to handle the responsibility. Dont just give a kid a knife to give it to him, if he has a actual interest I see no problems with him collecting.

Definitely a no. In my opinion kids shouldn't be allowed to play with knives or any sharp objects. These things, together with the influence from TV could turn them into violent individuals. Kids are just not mature enough to think of the danger and consequences of their actions. I don't have kids of my own yet, but playing with knives is not something I would like to see happen to my kids or to any kids in general. Knives at home should also be safely put away when not in use, and parents must exercise supervision of their kids activities and what they buy or are playing with. We can call parents as being over-protective, but it's better to let them than to feel sorry if anything bad happens.

It depends.

It depends on laws of the state or geographic area in which the person resides. Could the "kid" *legally* purchase such knives? Could the "kid" *legally* possess them even if he or she had hand-crafted them?

It depends on the age of the "kid". See previous.

It depends on the sharpness of the knives. Could they be a danger to (or from) other household members (younger siblings? visitors? intruders?)

It depends on the responsibility and maturity previously shown by the "kid". :-) Maybe the "kid" could edge the path towards knife collection by collecting spoons first.

Meanwhile, study and learn and save in preparation for the majority of your years, when you will be able to make your own choices more freely.

How old are you?

Teenages might be fine, preteens no way.
