AVG is good. -- I use it

You'll hear opinions for and against just about every virus program out there.

In side by side comparisons performed by professionals -- almost ALL the virus applications come out neck and neck.
Some will find a virus that 1 of its competitors missed, while missing 1 that another program did find. So it's kind of tit for tat, ying ang yang, 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

AVG seems to be light on the processor and memory resources.
I've heard Norton and Trend Micro take up more CPU and RAM

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
I use to use Trend Micro PCcillin on my Laptop, I noticed that my wireless card would not connect UNTIL PCcillin was completely DONE loading.. which sometimes was 1 to 2 minutes AFTER my desktop icons loaded. If I clicked on Internet Explorer too soon... it wouldn't load any webpage.

But I'm sure plenty of people have used PCcillin and haven't had that issue

There is really no proper answer to your question.

In terms of the top 10, where 1 is the best and 10 is the worse I would place AVG into 8.

My own choice of antivirus would be Kaspersky and i would give it a 2

Bit defender is supposed to be the best but I and an awful lot of people have blue screens of death (BSoD) when installing Bit Defender, and this has been going on a long time, so stay away from Bit defender.

See the chart and the info on the first link for more info.

I've used AVG with no problems over the years. Another good anti-virus software is Kaspersky, apparently. But I'd stick with AVG and update regularly!

As far as free Antivirus software AVG is great. I still prefer to use Avast due to the fact that it scans actively. I find Avast to be quicker with important releases concerning trojans and other nuisances.
