I certainly can't answer for Americans overall, but I've noticed a change among many of my co-worker friends. Historically, most voted straight Republican ticket because our jobs rely on military funding. Many of my friends who voted 'bread and butter' now say they will NOT vote straight party-line any more.

On the one hand, I see it as a good sign for 'party-line' voters to become 'issue' voters. On the other hand, I think it's a negative indicator of just how much the Republican Party has strayed and betrayed its roots of fiscal conservatism. Just my informal observation and opinion, take it for what it's worth.

I would say that the 2006 election would have meant that some Americans may have learned something.

But it would be naive to think that there won't be blow-back in an attempt to get back to the "good old days" that never existed.

The Republican party still sings the praises of Reagan who
-Got us closer to nuclear inhilation than any other President (see Stanislov Pretrov)
-Put the government into an incredible deficit, only surpassed by W.
-Destroyed many forward looking programs (we'd all be metric by now if it wasn't for Reagan who destroyed the board put in place to guide that transition)
-Created the myth of trickle-down economics which his own actions disproved but NeoCons are still quoting.

The man could sell snow to an Eskimo. I really don't think he was any smarter than W. was - but he sure had better P.R.

Maybe maybe maybe NeoCons will take a good strong look at Reagan's actions and see them for what they were - a power grab by the rich that almost got us all killed and has resulted in countless deaths since due to governmental inadequacy and hideous statesmanship.

But no - they'll claim that he ended to cold war (he didn't. The Soviets ran out of money trying to keep up with Western military policies going back to Truman).

Bush is the logical extension of Reagan's policies - without the superb PR.

Many will claim that the problem was how bad Bush's policies were and hail back to the glory days of Reagan - but they're the same policies. Maybe, they'll realize that.

Probably not.

They should have either learn or confirm that:
1- The Republican party is the party of the rich.
2- The Republican party is the war party.
3- The Republican party is the preferred party of the empire.
4- The Republican party is awfully close to despots, Nazism, and unconstitutional law.
5- That Americans, like any other human groups, are just as capable as the Nazis to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity.
6- That populations can be scared to accept anti civil rights and despotic measures.

Sad but I don't think so!
things are so quickly forgotten!

Just as a side thought.
If you think the first President was called Geogre Washington
And the 51st was the Second President in the USA called George
Then this means that the present President is George the thrid!
Is this just a coincidence or has it got something to do with the X-Files :-)

Perhaps America learned from Bush reign, but I bet that Americans will not be able to apply lessons to future Presidents for a few reasons. Nothing against American people, but Americans are completely powerless against their government, very much reluctant to do anything, very much busy to earn money to pay bills and not to offend anyone, I would say that large percentage of Americans are not too bright.

We sure did! Just what the Democrat party is really all about. It's not about defending America [we learned that from Vietnam] or governing for the majority,or even enforcing our laws. [illegal aliens]
How to spin the truth no matter how ridicules it sounds.

Don't really bet on we have learned anything from it. I have'nt seen any sign s of things headed that way to improvement.

Nope. A future president will be able to come along and do the exact same thing and no one will stop him until it's too late.

We've learned what we've been taught since we were knee-high to a grasshopper: that ANYONE can grow up to be President!
Even a village idiot! Even he hasn't grown up yet!
