The United States could have conquered Vietnam in about 3-6 months.
Sadly, the USA is always trying to win a war using diplomacy, carefullness in trying to sway the leader or authority of the country into a treaty.
One has to remember the destructive force unleashed in Japan, the USA views this in a sad sense and has no desire to ever do it again.
Essentially, the marines are always deployed on foreign soil with both hands tied, very rarely do they act out what they were trained for!
Foreign countries are very, very fortunate of the latter!
The typical protester is usually against everything in life, always looking to add to the problem.
One does not need to protest in this foolish manner, form a group and generate signatures in reference to the above.
Provide the signatures to a person that has authority to do something; Governor etc...
...and dont give up, you may have to do it a number of times!

Whatever you feel about the reasons for the US getting involved in the Vietnam war, the really sad part for me is how they fought it. There is very little reason why the US could not have won that war militarily. But for the most part they tried to keep it a "limited" war. So instead of hitting the enemy with everything they had, they pulled their punches and lost. Now, that's not to say that things would have ended much different in the long run, the VC would likely have kept fighting and the US would eventually have pulled out anyway. But maybe there would not have been a communist take over.

It sucked. I lost dear friends there for no good reason. No, it was not worth it, and even those of us who served in the damn war protested it when we got out of the service. We were/are Vietnam Veterans Against the War.

The US lost the Vietnam war. 50,000 American troops died. An unknown but roughly estimated 2,000,000 Vietnamese died. I grew up during the war and clearly remember how awful it was. To this day, if you go to the memorial wall in Washington everyone there cries regardless of what political party they belonged to.
People protested because: (a) We had a draft and the government sent you to fight, (b) because the war did nothing good for anybody except arms manufacturers.

You must ask relatives of the 57,062 that died. What have we gained as a nation from that cost?
