After Forever - by Black Sabbath:

"Would you like to see the Pope at the end of a rope, do you think he's a fool? Is Christ just a name that you read in a book, when you were in school?"

Edit - PinkFloyd1962, I love that song too! Have you ever seen the video Jethro Tull did of that song for the movie 'Slip Stream'? It's fantastic!
If you haven't seen it before, well then here it is,

I'm just checking in to give an upward thumb to the first contributor.

I saw these guys when I was 8 at the Long Beach, CA arena: Simon and Garfunkle. They did a great song called "The Boxer," which describes the life of a poor man become fighter. There's a line:

"I squandered my resistence
For a pocket full of mumbles
Such are promises"

It's a great line because the "pocket" and "mumbles" subtely refer simultaneously to the money he's making as well as the brain damage he has suffered from being pummeled for so long.

Well there are so many cool lines, things I relate to and all but this special one came to me right now as I listened to it a while ago. It is Jethro Tull's

Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die

The old Rocker wore his hair too long,
wore his trouser cuffs too tight.
Unfashionable to the end --- drank his ale too light.
Death's head belt buckle --- yesterday's dreams ---
the transport caf' prophet of doom.
Ringing no change in his double-sewn seams
in his post-war-babe gloom.

Now he's too old to Rock'n'Roll but he's too young to die.

He once owned a Harley Davidson and a Triumph Bonneville.
Counted his friends in burned-out spark plugs
and prays that he always will.
But he's the last of the blue blood greaser boys
all of his mates are doing time:
married with three kids up by the ring road
sold their souls straight down the line.
And some of them own little sports cars
and meet at the tennis club do's.
For drinks on a Sunday --- work on Monday.
They've thrown away their blue suede shoes.

Now they're too old to Rock'n'Roll and they're too young to die.

So the old Rocker gets out his bike
to make a ton before he takes his leave.
Up on the A1 by Scotch Corner
just like it used to be.
And as he flies --- tears in his eyes ---
his wind-whipped words echo the final take
and he hits the trunk road doing around 120
with no room left to brake.

And he was too old to Rock'n'Roll but he was too young to die.
No, you're never too old to Rock'n'Roll if you're too young to die

EDIT Smiley.... you and I seem to share the same musical taste !! I love it because of the music and because it depicts a whole generation. The ones who cling to the youth and won't let go, born to be wild until death..... and on the other hand the ones that traded in for the establishment. I feel I am on the balcony over the stage, looking at both.

The harvest appeared less plentiful than last season, I imagine sloppy seed handling evoked a stroke of tardy planting, and the crops we'd have harvested mid-November had only brushed the blossom bracket, then soon sacrificed life to icicle jackets when the frost hit.

This is my new age,
All you bitches put your hands in the air and wave them like you just don't care.

All you maggots smoking fags out there on Sunset Boulevard.

I have three:

"There ain't no Devil, it's just God when he's drunk!"

- Tom Waits, Heart Attack And Vine

"All For Freedom and for pleasure, nothing ever lasts forever"

- Tears For Fears, Everybody Wants To Rule The World

and the best goes to:

""They will tell you that you can't sleep alone in a strange place.
Then they'll tell you that you can't sleep with somebody else.
Ah, but sooner or later you sleep in your own space.
Either way it's OK, you wake up with yourself!"

- Billy Joel, My Life

Thank you.

The windows open
and the little girl dreams
The sky's her playground
as she mounts her steed
Across the heavens
to the other side
On wings of magic
does the little girl ride.
