I'm looking at a 1960 Oldsmoblie 88 that is for sale on the net. No pictures of the engine, but it is claimed to be a 394. From what i can find on the net (which is very little), the only 88 that got the 394 is the Super 88. From the pic on the net, i managed to make out a Dynamic 88 badge on the rear fender. So, my final question is, Did the Dynamic 88 get equipped with the 394, or just the 371? I'm trying to get an engine pic, i know that the 394 was green, and the 371 gold, but that's all i've got. Thanks for any help!

Ask the seller for the VIN number from the vehicle, take that number to any General Motors Dealership service department and they will be able to tell you from that number. Each character of that VIN number will answer all the questions that you want to know about that vehicle. You just got to know how to read the number. Each number on the VIN tells something about the vehicle such as engine size, transmission, year of manufacture, body style, the factory where it was made, etc.

original for that car should have been a 394 with around 315 horse power, that's with the 4 barrel, ask the seller to look on the decal on the breather if its still their they said it right on the breather, the vin number wont help you on this one either they wasn't that accurate with vin numbers and options in those days, good luck.

ask the seller if he can take a pic of either side of the engine block, all GM motors have the motor size cast on each side,,327,400,394 etc.
