So i was pulling out of my driveway and everything went fine. I drove about a 100 feet distance and suddenly I heard a loud "thump". The sound sounded like it came from the back right side of my car. It sounded kind of like a snap, or a scrape. And so i break and put my car into park. The engine and everything else about the car sounds the same but when i put my car into drive or reverse, nothing happens. I get no movement or anything. There is still the sound of the engine when I step on the gas however. Does anybody know what might have happened, or the costs to fix it. Thanks in adance.

I believe your transmission went out, and yes, you are looking at a couple grand to remove and repair (or replace) it.

It does indeed sound like a transmission problem. However, one of either drive, or reverse should still have worked. There are some reports on both happening at once listed in books on lemon vehicles.
You are nice in that you did not say what brand of car/van/truck it was.

Chances are very slim that your car is a rear wheel drive. But that happened to me many years ago when a drive shaft bearing failed and the shaft fell to the ground - disconnecting the engine power to the rear wheels. This can't happen on a front wheel drive car though.
